Martin on Zestology podcast!

Thanks, Tony Wrighton for spending time geeking out about biohacking during my last trip to London.  Our conversation is now a podcast!

Here are Tony’s show notes:

Martin is CEO of Upgrade Labs, the world’s first dedicated biohacking facility.

I’ve been there in LA and it is fantastic. A playground for health, wellness and you get a damn good workout in the process.

Their data-driven technology uses measurable and trackable results that can help optimize one’s overall health by lowering levels of inflammation, improving cognitive function, quickening muscle growth, and optimizing hormone levels.

He was in London and so we caught up and recorded a podcast.

After this I”m pretty sure you might want to try;

  • Cryotherapy
  • The Cheat Machine
  • Red light therapy
  • Valspar
  • Virtual Float Tank
  • Pemf
  • Cold Hiit
  • and much more.

Martin talks to TA McCann about how to live to 200

My friend TA McCann just started a new podcast, How to Live to 200.  I was one of his first guests.  We talk about how I got sucked into the Biohacking world, some of the quantified ways I have gotten younger over the last year, and a few peeks into the crystal ball on upgrades coming down the pipe for the rest of us.

What is this place?

It has been about 18 months since I began posting semi-regularly.    At the time, something indefinite was pushing me to write down some stuff I thought important.  Today as I sit on the balcony of my suite overlooking the surf in Honolulu, and looking back on 2016, the focus is becoming a little more clear.

During the last year a number of people have asked me “What are you blogging about really?”  or “Are you trying to make this a business?” or “Why are you doing all this work?”  I have asked myself those questions as well many times.  While there have been temptations to make a run at becoming a “famous” blogger, someone with a large following ala Tim Ferris or Dave Asprey, I keep reminding myself “Been there, done that” on the “famous” thing.  I have been mining a much more personal vein.  Marcus Aurelius wrote Meditations primarily for himself.  As little reminders to turn back to in times of crisis or decision.   I have found myself doing the same with a number of these posts, going back to take more self-assessment tests, re-reading posts like “how I prepare for conflict situations” before a conflict situation and generally using this blog as a personal reference.  To that end, I have not done a lot of syndication, cross posting, nor have I gotten a newsletter going.  That all sounds like work to build an audience.  I don’t intend this to be a business, nor do I intend to be any kind of authority on anything except my own personal life journey.

So in 2017 I will be doubling down on the Marcus Aurelius aspect of this blog.  All advice and documented learnings of myself for my better self.    Don’t expect me to change your life.  That is up to you.

I’m Back

This is my first long form blog post in many years.  Twitter, Facebook and Instagram killed the first incarnation of DeepGreenCrystals.  Over the years (and with the help of every new technology wave), my communication style has shrunk and devolved.  Today my email signature is simply “M”.   Pictures have replaced words.   Apps fill in names and places and helpfully link to everyone else’s thoughts about a person, place or thing, so my personal thoughts are rarely necessary.

When I turned 50 last year, something changed.  One part nostalgia, two parts paying it forward, add a splash of extra time on my hands and I have a tasty cocktail with which to reboot this DeepGreenCrystals thing.  The title has the original intent baked in.  Deep Green Crystals, the tiny valuable knowledge nuggets that power the whole thing.  The powerful things that really matter.  As I look through the archives, there is a lot of pontification, product reviews, and outright whimsy.  Going forward I hope to stick to the basics.  My thoughts about things big and small that I think are important and powerful in this life.  Hopefully I will be able to imbue into the posts some of what I have learned over the years to give context to my opinions.  You won’t find any slavish talking points here (although I am sure to be accused of that eventually).  Every post will be a result of my personal desire to actually communicate a point of view that I feel very strongly about based on 50+ years trying to figure out what I want to do with my life.  I hope you don’t always agree with my conclusions.  We have traveled different paths.  I just hope you understand how I got here and why.  Not trying to start a debate, although many issues will be controversial.  Your opinion is always welcome, but don’t be surprised if I don’t change my mind just because you feel strongly I should.

Not sure how often I will post or if anyone will give a shit, but this is where I am going to leave it all.

Comments (sometimes) welcome.
